Origin: Bolgheri, Tuscany, Italy
Grape Variety: Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot
Color: Intense ruby red with violet reflections
Nose: Complex and enveloping, with predominant notes of ripe berries, blackcurrant, cherry, and plum. Hints of sweet spices, tobacco, cocoa, and a light balsamic touch also emerge.
Taste: On the palate, it is rich, structured, and full-bodied, with velvety tannins and good freshness that balances the wine's power. Fruity flavors are accompanied by notes of dark chocolate, black pepper, and a slight minerality that reflects the Bolgheri terroir. Long, persistent finish with a spicy aftertaste.
Alcohol content: 14.5%
Serving temperature: 16-18°C
Pairings: Ideal with grilled red meats, roasts, game, and aged cheeses. Also perfect with flavorful dishes such as braised meats, wild boar ragu, and pappardelle with hare sauce.
Terroir: The vineyards are located near Bolgheri, on soils composed of clay, sand, and pebbles, which give the wine a unique minerality and good aging potential. The Mediterranean climate with marine influences allows for optimal grape ripening, ensuring freshness and aromatic complexity.
Vinification: Grapes are harvested manually, with careful selection of the bunches. This is followed by a long maceration and temperature-controlled fermentation to best extract aromatic and structural components. The wine is then aged in French oak barriques for 18 months, followed by additional months in the bottle to soften the tannins and develop greater complexity.
Description: The 2021 Sor Ugo Bolgheri Superiore DOC represents an excellent expression of the Bolgheri territory, combining power, elegance, and longevity. It is a wine that unites the traditions of the Tuscan coast with the innovation of modern winemaking, resulting in a sophisticated red of great character. The presence of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc provides structure and longevity, while Merlot adds softness and Petit Verdot intensifies the aromatic complexity.
