Origin: Fécamp, Normandy – 16th-century monastic recipe.

Raw materials: 27 herbs and spices including angelica, hyssop, juniper, and myrrh.

Color: Golden amber.

Nose: Complex, with herbaceous notes, honey, and oriental spices.

Taste: Sweet, warm, with accents of saffron, cinnamon, and candied citrus.

Alcohol content: 40% ABV.

Distillation: The liqueur is created by the separate distillation of herbs in copper stills. This is followed by blending into four base elixirs which are aged in oak casks for 8 months, then further refined in large oak vats for 4 months, with the addition of honey and saffron before bottling.

Created in 1510 by the monk Dom Bernardo Vincelli as an herbal elixir, it was rediscovered and relaunched in 1863 by Alexandre Le Grand. Its secret recipe based on 27 botanicals makes it a rich, enveloping, and complex liqueur, capable of seducing both on its own and in the great classics of mixology. Today it is part of the Bacardi portfolio and is considered an international benchmark in the landscape of aromatic liqueurs.
