Grape variety: Merlot
Color: Intense ruby red
Nose: Fresh aromas of sour cherries, red plums, and figs, with subtle notes of black pepper and hints of limestone minerality.
Taste: On the palate, aromas of red fruit, wild herbs, and a light peppery note emerge, accompanied by a lively acidity reminiscent of a Pinot Noir. The finish is elegant and medium-bodied, with ripe tannins and high drinkability.
Serving temperature: 16-18°C
Pairings: Pairs well with cured meats, saffron risotto, lamb navarin, and alpine cheeses.
Terroir: The grapes come from the "In Nisciora" vineyard in Beride, in the municipality of Croglio, planted in 1981 at an altitude of 400-450 m a.s.l., with a southwest exposure. The soil consists of light brown glacial deposits.
Vinification: The grapes are destemmed without being crushed and fall by gravity into small open vats, allowing for a slower and more delicate whole-berry fermentation and maceration. Aging takes place in Burgundy oak barrels for 16-18 months, without the use of new wood. The wine is not filtered, and SO₂ is used according to the guidelines of Max Léglise.
Description: Terraferma is an elegant Merlot, atypical for Ticino standards, as the expression of wood is secondary to the fruit and terroir. Production is limited to about 2,000 bottles per year. The nose presents intense aromas of black berries, violet, and creosote, anticipating a juicy and refined palate, which makes it accessible in its youth while still possessing excellent aging potential.
