Origin: Japan — Yoichi (Hokkaido) and Miyagikyo (Sendai) distilleries, producer: Nikka Whisky Distilling Co.

Raw materials: 100% malted barley.

Color: Bright, luminous gold, typical of a young malt whisky.

Nose: Complex and inviting, with fruity notes of pear, apricot, apple, and peach, accompanied by hints of melon and tropical fruit. Notes of vanilla, honey, and cream are perceptible, with shades of sherry, light spices, and a touch of smoke derived from the Yoichi malts.

Palate: Soft and balanced, sweet on the opening with vanilla, caramel, and honey. Juicy fruit (pear, apple, apricot) emerges, along with notes of toasted bread and hazelnut, with spicy hints and a slightly smoky background that brings balance to the finish.

Finish: Medium persistence, sweet-fruity with returns of toasted wood and light spices. A touch of smoke accompanies the elegant finish.

Alcohol content: 43% vol.

Serving temperature: 15-18° C, served in a Glencairn glass or a short tumbler. Excellent neat, perhaps with a drop of water to open up the aromas.

Terroir:

  The blend fuses the strength and minerality of Yoichi with the finesse of Miyagikyo.

Production: Malt whisky obtained exclusively from malted barley, distilled at the two Nikka distilleries. Aged in ex-bourbon, sherry, and American and European oak casks, without an age statement (NAS).
