Origin: El Puerto de Santa María (Cádiz), Andalusia, Spain.
Raw materials: Carlos I Imperial XO is born from base wines obtained from neutral white grapes typical of the Jerez area, specifically Airén and Palomino Fino. These light, low-aromatic wines are ideal for distillation because they allow for the production of a pure, elegant spirit that is well-suited for long aging in wood.
Color: Deep amber with golden reflections
Nose: Intense and well-balanced aromas: vanilla, cocoa, toasted wood, walnuts, tobacco, and figs, with hints of sweet spices and acetaldehyde.
Palate: Silky and enveloping texture, complex and soft structure; a persistent, powerful, and very elegant taste.
Alcohol content: 40%
Serving temperature: It should be served at 18–20 °C, in a tulip or balloon glass, to best enhance its aromatic complexity and smoothness on the palate. It can be enjoyed neat as a meditation spirit, or with an ice cube to soften its structure. It is also suitable as a base for refined cocktails, though its maximum expression is achieved when tasted pure.
Pairings: This is a meditation brandy that pairs magnificently with high-quality dark chocolate, cocoa- and coffee-based desserts, and spiced sweets such as gingerbread or nut cakes. Its elegant structure also makes it ideal for pairing with premium cigars for a complete sensory experience. In a culinary context, it can accompany aged and blue cheeses, creating a refined contrast between sweetness and savoriness. It is also a versatile spirit, capable of enriching signature cocktails such as the Imperial Manhattan or the Espresso Brandy.
Terroir: Indigenous to the Jerez area in Andalusia, with aging in American oak barrels that previously held Amontillado and Oloroso sherry; the solera system and the region impart structure, complexity, and refinement.
Distillation: Obtained through batch distillation in traditional copper stills, which allow for the preservation of the purity and elegance of the aromas. The base wine is distilled slowly to extract only the noblest fractions of the distillate, known as "holandas" (spirits with low alcohol content and rich in aromatic components).
These spirits form the basis of Brandy de Jerez and, once distilled, are placed to age in the criaderas y solera system, in barrels that previously held Oloroso and Amontillado sherry.
Description: The Brandy Carlos Primero Imperial XO Gran Reserva is the quintessence of the Spanish art of brandy. Regal as an emperor, this blend, expertly assembled by Osborne, tells stories of over two decades of aging, kept in precious barrels. In the glass, it presents with an amber gold that promises an elegant and rich taste: vanilla and cocoa merge with notes of walnut, tobacco, and dried fruit, supported by sweet spice. On the palate, it is velvety, sophisticated, and persistent, ideal both for sipping neat and for bringing class to the most refined cocktails.
