Origin: Bolgheri, Castagneto Carducci, Tuscany, Italy
Grape Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc (with small variable percentages of Petit Verdot depending on the vintage)
Color: Intense, deep, and luminous ruby red with garnet reflections
Aroma: Ample and complex, with intense notes of plum, blueberry, and blackcurrant, enriched by hints of licorice, roasted coffee, tobacco, graphite, and fresh balsamic nuances of mint
Taste: Sumptuous, dense, and enveloping. On the palate, it reveals a silky tannic texture of rare refinement, supported by a vibrant acidity and a persistent finish with returns of sweet spices and Mediterranean scrub
Alcohol content: 14.5% Vol.
Serving temperature: 16 - 18 °C
Pairings: Full-bodied red meats, grilled Florentine steak, furred and feathered game, roasts with brown stock reductions, braised meats, and aged hard cheeses
Terroir: Bolgheri amphitheater. Alluvial soils with a clay-sandy and clay-silty matrix, rich in skeleton ("Bolgheri conglomerate"). The Mediterranean climate benefits from constant sea breezes coming from the Tyrrhenian coast and the nocturnal temperature variations caused by the surrounding hills
Vinification: Manual selection of the clusters and optical sorting berry by berry. Vinification and maceration in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for 15-20 days, separating each vineyard plot. Direct transfer into new French oak barriques where it completes malolactic fermentation. Aging for about 18 months in wood before the final blending and subsequent resting in the bottle
In-depth description:
Guado al Tasso represents the maximum expression of the Estate and an undisputed icon of the Bolgheri territory. This "Super Tuscan" combines the refined elegance of Cabernet Sauvignon, the softness of Merlot, and the aromatic and balsamic component of Cabernet Franc. Produced since 1990, it originates in a natural amphitheater unique in the world where the vineyards slope down from the hills towards the sea, enjoying extraordinary light and a perfect microclimate. On the palate, it is a powerful yet incredibly harmonious wine, capable of evolving and refining in the cellar for over two decades while keeping its freshness and complexity intact.
